Using Proxy Websites

For those of you out there at work or school who are unable to visit some sites that prevent you from doing proper research, then just read on. I'm sure that by now you have read or heard about something called a proxy. There are many definitions for a proxy but to explain in simple terms I'm going to use an example. First just think of your computer as a car and think of the internet as the road and highways. Now, think of what every car on the road must have in order for someone to drive without getting pulled over by a cop. That's right, a license plate! The license plate identifies who owns the vehicle, where they live, how old they are, and so on and so forth. So in comparison the computer's license plate would be it's ip address. This is how each computer is identified on the internet. With enough computer knowledge someone can find out where you're located with your ip address alone, as long as your computer is connected to the internet.

This is why a quick and easy solution to this problem would be to surf behind a proxy. An internet proxy or proxy website hides your public ip address that is shown to everyone online so you can surf anonymously. Proxy sites that turn your public ip into an anonymous ip address look similar to a search engine in the respect that it has a search form at the bottom or the top of the page. To use it all you have to do is type in the address of the site you want to visit in the form as you would in the address bar on top of a browser. For example, instead of typing in a keyword or phrase you would need to type in www.whatever.com or just whatever.com. These private proxy sites are also useful to use when you don't want to catch a virus or spyware from visiting a site.

There are several anonymous services out there so just google them or ask for them in forums and you'll find out the huge number of proxy lists you can try out. You can even use them to visit your favorite social networking sites and have your personal youtube proxy.

So now you know how to visit your favorite research sites from any where in the world. Just search for a proxy and do all your surfing from behind it and start having fun at work.
